Hamburg International Short Film Festival

Hamburg International Short Film Festival

For the 30th time, Hamburg is hosting its funky, creative short film festival, and about 14,000 visitors are expected to view the 400 or so movies organized around various themes. From June 3-9, the festival center on Friedensallee will be transformed into “a fun fair for film makers, film enthusiasts, and generally nice people from all over the world.”

Highlights include an International Competition, a German Competition, and the ever-popular No Budget Competition, which presents works made on a shoestring but with plenty of ideas and commitment.

Don’t miss the Three Minute Quickies, films of no more than three minutes’ length on a predetermined subject. This year’s topic, in tribute perhaps to the upcoming FIFA soccer World Cup, is “Doping.”

The Mo & Friese Hamburg Children’s Short Film Festival, held in tandem with the grownup films, is one of few kids’ short film festivals in the world.
